The Chillon Project is an initiative of the Center for Compassion, Integrity, and Secular Ethics to provide higher education to people impacted by the prison system in Georgia. Life University currently offers a Bachelor of Science in Psychology to women in the Georgia Prison System. Students in this program, once released from prison continue to receive scholarships to complete degrees of their choice at the main campus of Life University or through distance education. We are scheduled to start our 4th cohort at McRae Women’s Facility Fall 2026.

  • In 2016, Life U became the first Georgia college or university to provide an accredited degree program in prison since the ban on Pell Grants in 1994. Since then, 48 incarcerated students have enrolled as undergraduates at Life U, and 40 completed degrees, including associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
  • Across the nation Kareemah Hanifa who is also Chillon Project Alum is one of the first system impacted women PEP Directors.
