The Offender Alumni Association's mission is to create a network of justice-impacted individuals who inspire each other to reduce crime, develop healthy relationships within their communities and provide opportunities for educational, economic, social, and civic empowerment.
What makes the Offender Alumni Association (OAA) unique is that it is led by formerly incarcerated individuals who transform lived experience into structured, community-based solutions. Our credible messenger model is not an add-on, it is the foundation of our organizational leadership, staffing, and service delivery. Those closest to the problem are designing and implementing the solutions. We intentionally create pathways to education by connecting participants to GED programs, vocational certifications, workforce training, and postsecondary opportunities. Education is positioned not only as skill-building, but as a pathway to economic mobility, confidence, and long-term stability.
OAA also responds directly to Alabama’s unique context, including the impact of the three-strikes law and mandatory releases of individuals who have served decades in prison. We intentionally address Post-Incarceration Syndrome (PICS) and the psychological effects of long-term incarceration through trauma-informed, peer-led support—an area often overlooked in traditional reentry models.
