Prison + Neighborhood Arts/Education Project's mission is to build relationships of reciprocity that bring artists, scholars, and writers together with incarcerated people and our communities. We believe that access to education and art is a fundamental human right with the capacity to transform people, systems, and futures.
Since 2011, PNAP has provided educational programming to incarcerated students across Illinois with subjects ranging from visual arts, poetry, literature, creative writing, history, political theory, and social studies.
Unique to PNAP is that our classes are open to all students regardless of their prior education and there is no obligation to pursue degree programming.
Additionally, we prioritize students with more limited access to programming; this includes those with long-term or life sentences at Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) facilities and those in general population at Cook County Jail.
