Beginning in 2027, UCSB LIFTED (Leveraging Inspiring Futures Through Educational Degrees) will offer a UC Santa Barbara Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Literature to students in California State Prison, Corcoran. Using a hybrid course delivery model that combines distance and on-site learning, UCSB LIFTED will ensure that incarcerated Californians are included in the University of California’s mission to make higher education available to all eligible Californians who wish to attend the University of California.
UCSB LIFTED will be one of the first remote prison BA programs in the country. UCSB LIFTED will be the first BA program with a major in literary studies in California prisons and the only BA offered at California State Prison, Corcoran.
